Kath & I take off the weeks after Memorial Day and Labor Day. The idea is to maximize our vacation time and do as much fun stuff as possible in the 9 days we have off. This week started out with me driving over to Grand Junction to see Mom for a delayed Mother's Day trip. Here we are just before tucking into a plate of ribs at Famous Dave's.
The next night was even better. We sampled some of the local eats & drinks at Bin 707. Mom treated herself to a Bin Martini, which was fantastic. I elected to try the Hemingway, which is their take on a mojito. It was excellent. If fact, it was so good that I've embarked on a quest (lifelong, if need be) to replicate the drink. It's 'Pan Galactic Garble Blaster' good. Really.
Recovering from a generous Hemingway infusion, I made my way back over the hill and landed promptly at a neighborhood BBQ. It was more about the wine than the meat and some you may see a pattern forming.
Tuesday dawned relatively clear and provided us an opportunity to finally get the boats on the water. Before putting in, however, we had to run an errand. This was not your garden variety, 'pick up the milk' sort of errand. It was the 'change your life/culmination of years of hard work' sort. Here's Katherine dropping into the mail an envelope containing the payoff to our house.
That's right, kids. It's all ours. Afterwards, we were off to the lake.
We played chicken with a thunderstorm and lost, so the photo above was taken after hanging out at the winery in Evergreen with a couple glasses of viognet. Of course, no trip to the lake is complete without the requisite goofy selfie.
The celebratory dinner was relatively simple fare - good steak and excellent beer.
The weather on Wednesday wasn't as cooperative, but we managed to time a bike ride with a break in the storms. We've had an unusual amount of moisture this Spring, so the trail was a bit muddy in places. Regardless, it was great to ride some singletrack.
Thursday was probably the biggest surprise. No adventure week is complete without some crazy scheme of yours truly, so I decided that we should go skiing at A-Basin. Katherine, being a good sport, decided to play along. It was shockingly good. The coverage at A-Basin in late May was better than that of Mary Jane in mid March. Yet another selfie from the lift:
Yours truly getting my not-so-inner ski bum on:
I told you the coverage was good:
Last, but not least, Kath & I basking in the glory of wrapping up a late May ski day:
We hadn't enough adventure for the day, so off to see Lindsay Stirling at Red Rocks we went. She put on a fantastic show.
Selfie On the Rocks:
The rest of the week was all about relaxing, bbq's and more bike rides. I'm already looking forward to Labor Day.

White Christmas
The snow started falling yesterday afternoon and we have over a foot on the ground. Fortunately, it's the typical Colorado winter powder, which makes it much easier to plow and shovel.
In addition to being easy to shovel, the powder is fun to play in. Kath and I grabbed the dogs for some snowshoeing on the property.
Wilson enjoys the snow, but has a hard time locating his ball in the deep stuff.
The requisite selfie of Katherine and I snowshoeing on the property.
The following shot is from last year, but is one of my favorites of Woody. With this, we wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Black Friday Biking
While the masses braved the Black Friday sales, Kath and I met up with our good friend Jon for a social bike ride in the Deer Creek area.
The three of us feeling cheeky:
Jon and I:
The conditions were fantastic. There was very little moisture and surprisingly few other folks on the trail. We had darn near record highs (high 60's). The warm temps are now a fond memory. Two short days later, the mercury hovers around 20 F. Gotta love Colorado.

Working From Home
Working from home may not always be the best option. Yesterday, our oldest lab walked into the office, looked up at me and farted. He wagged a couple times as if to say "We're good here, right?", walked back into the living room and situated himself on the couch.
As such, I'm faced with a choice - brave traffic on C470 or share office space with a flatulent lab. Mental note - change his treats.
